Only 300 pieces of Namiki Daruma fountain pens are made and each fitted with an 18kt gold nib. 
Made of hira makie on the doll (Flat maki-e) while the background has Togidashi and Raden Mother of Pearl to enhance the beauty of this pen.

A Daruma doll is a hollow, round, Japanese traditional doll modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism. These dolls, though typically red and depicting a bearded man (Bodhidharma), vary greatly in color and design depending on region and artist. Though considered a toy by some, Daruma has a design that is rich in symbolism and is regarded more as a talisman of good luck to the Japanese. Daruma dolls are seen as a symbol of perseverance and good luck, making them a popular gift of encouragement. The doll has also been commercialized by many Buddhist temples to use alongside the setting of goals.

Daruma is red in colour, which conjures images of blood and fire, has come to signify protection from evil spirits and has become the most common colour for Daruma dolls. However, different colours are said to invite different types of luck or protection as follows:

Yellow : Monetary fortune, Fame, Good luck
Blue: Success, Independence, Promotion
Red : Family Safety, Victories, Good luck
Green: Health, Unlocking one’s potential, Increasing athletic potential
Black : Protection against bad luck and natural disasters, economic surplus

The artists who have crafted these pens by hand are part of the “Kokokai” which is a group of exceptionally trained Maki-e artisans.
