The first Namiki collection to herald the New Year draws inspiration from an animal highly-revered as a symbol of wisdom and success – the Owl.
The "Fukuro" in japanese or Owl, has captured the attention and fascination of the Japanese for its ability to employ stealth flight and hunt with keen precision in darkness.
The phonetic equivalents of "Fukuro" bear dual meanings - ‘protection from hardship’ and ‘blessings’. Hence, the owl is often regarded as an auspicious bird and is commonly used as a motif in lucky charms.

Prized by true pen connoisseurs as the pinnacle of the Namiki series, the Emperor collection provides the canvas to this latest masterpiece. Artistically crafted on the ebonite fountain pen body are two identical owl figures. One is perched on a Quercusserate tree, showcasing the nocturnal bird’s exceptional ability in seeking out its prey in the still of the night, while the other depicts the owl silently flapping its wings and swooping in for the kill.

The majestic owl is brought to life in vivid detail with the Rankaku (Egg Shell) Maki-e technique, which employs small pieces of quail shells to give added depth and dimension. The captivating eyes of the owl are accentuated with Raden (Mother-of-Pearl). This Maki-e technique involves the extraction of stratum from various shells which are then artfully altered and secured with Urushi lacquer, giving a lustrous glow effect to resemble the owl’s mysterious glint.
