Visconti 150 years of the Unity of Italy
In 2011 we celebrate 150 years of the Unity of Italy, officially proclaimed March 17, 1861 when Vittorio Emanuele II was appointed King of Italy “by the grace of God and will of the nation”.
The path that led to the formation of the Kingdom of Italy began after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, but the kingdom was established after the Second War of Independence and the Expedition of the Thousand led by Giuseppe Garibaldi. At the end of the Second War of Independence, in fact, the Kingdom of Sardinia included the present-day territories of Valle d'Aosta, Piedmont, Sardinia, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria and Tuscany. In 1860 it was then organized the expedition of the Thousand, Garibaldi started from fourth on May 5 and May 11, landed at Marsala. Meanwhile, the Committee for National Unity of Naples tried to conquer the capital. In August, the Basilicata joined the Kingdom of Italy. Also in August, Giuseppe Garibaldi crossed the Straits of Messina and Puglia has revoked the Bourbons to the insurgency of Altamura. On September 7, 1860 entered in Naples, now abandoned by King Francis II of Bourbon. In October a series of plebiscites have established the annexation of the territories of the Two Sicilies to the Kingdom of Savoy.
In 1861, with the first meeting of the Italian Parliament, has been proclaimed as the Kingdom of Italy, who was still missing, Veneto and Friuli, Rome, Trentino-Alto Adige, Venezia Giulia, territories that would be entered in subsequent years. The Albertine Statute, which was promulgated by Carlo Alberto of Savoy, March 4, 1848, is extended to the whole kingdom to define the characteristics of the new constitutional monarchy. The Kingdom of Italy was born then as enlargement of the Kingdom of Sardinia. The new kingdom was recognized by foreign countries and has spread the idea that a united Italy could have been a source of stability for the entire continent.
For the prestigious occasion of the sesquicentennial anniversary of the Unification of Italy, taking as our model the new collection Michelangelo faceted, we wanted to create a pen specially dedicated to the event embellishing it with patriotic colors on enamel and dates of recurrence, 1861 - 2011.
Thanks to our technicians and to a new technology that we just set up, we were able to realize a faceted shape composed by 36 sides (within the cap and the barrel), tapered on the two extremities. 150 ° Unity of Italy with the collection is probably Michelangelo created the first pen with as many as 36 faces that makes it looks like more as a diamond than to a writing object: the value of a diamond, after the weighing in carats, is in fact due to the quality cut and the number of faces.
Just rotate the pen in your hands to realize it!
Visconti, the more innovative pens’ company of the world, could not create a new model without adding even two ulterior technical and aesthetical motifs: the magnetic closing, and the engraved and enamelled band.
The band has a glaze as a decorative motif in three colors: green, white and red, the colors of our flag, elegantly framing of anniversary dates engraved. The band is also repeated on the flag tip of the pen. The color is the classic black finish metal palladium!
