S.T. Dupont history

S.T. Dupont History

The story begins with a man of exceptional destiny: Simon Tissot
Dupont. In 1872, he created a luggage and leather goods workshop,
which then began to product a steady stream of exceptional products
for the highest social circles.

In 1941, S.T.Dupont owes one of its greatest successes, its first
luxury petrol lighter, to the Maharajah of Patiala. This was quickly
followed by the iconic Ligne 2, a design harking back to the thirties,
adorned with silver, gold, palladium, lacquer and the most precious
materials. It has since become a genuine cult item, recognisable
all over the world, by the sound it makes: his famous “cling”.

Jackie Kennedy loved her Dupont lighter so much that in 1973
she ordered a pen to match. Another Dupont icon was born: the
“Classique”. Again, the workshop brought forward its exceptional
craftsmanship. A new product, a new sensation: people went
wild for the Classique, not only for its impeccable looks, but also
its perfect balance and fluid writing.

In 2012, S.T.Dupont celebrates 140 years of prestige and exclusivity,
and continues to express its passion — creating exceptional products
for exceptional people.
Audrey Hepburn™ and Humphrey Bogart™, two famous customers,
have become S.T.Dupont’s special icons. Two collections specially
designed for them have been reproduced for this event.

MASTER GOLDSMITH
The art of goldsmith and silversmiths has always played an important role in the creation of S.T.Dupont objects.
Sumptuous travel bags, coveted by high society throughout the world at the beginning of the twentieth century, were complemented
by luxurious gold and silver accessories, expertly polished or decorated with fine  guilloche.
This means, metal has become a means of decoration, either elegantly understated orhighly sophisticated.
S.T.Dupont’s master craftsmen display their skills in ever-changing
combinations of Diamond Head, gadroon and cable motifs.
Whether painstakingly guilloched by hand or created using the latest digital techniques, plated in gold, palladium or silver, S.T.Dupont
objects reflect the House’s unique expertise and passion.
