MONTEGRAPPA EXTRA BESCOPE
\BESPOKE Montegrappa,
MONTEGRAPPA EXTRA BESCOPE
“Bespoke”is easy to define, but challenging to realise. A dictionary will state the
definition as, simply, “made to order.” On one level, it is self-explanatory, telling the observer that the object, whether a garment or an automobile or a watch, has been distinguished from the norm by being made to its owner’s personal requirements. It is an old and noble practice, yet one that has all but disappeared
in an increasingly commercial world, especially for items that require technical prowess involving work with metals, precious stones or other materials that are costly and difficult to fashion. The challenge is in offering an authentic and genuinely bespoke service, understanding precisely what the client desires, and creating the object to match the exact specifications.
At Montegrappa, we enjoy over 100 years’ experience in the use of artisan skills.
We have never known a period without offering hand-finished objects for discerning customers. Today, we offer again a special service that will ensure your Montegrappa pen is unique – to you. We have assembled the finest engravers in Europe to translate your desires into images in precious metal. We match each design to a pen that will complement and showcase the engraving, the client selecting from a broad palette of colours in our range of celluloid barrels. In doing so, we create a pen that represents the client’s passion, possessing the same personality as the person who carries it. It is, literally, like no other on earth.
It begins with an image. It may be a family member, a much-loved pet, a building, a work of art.
Our craftspersons work from drawings or photographs, as proffered by the customer, which will
be translated to an image in metal, with timeless permanence.
Using age-old techniques and traditional tools, our engravers translate the customer’s chosen
image into a pattern to be engraved on solid silver or gold, at the client’s behest. It is here that
true artistry transforms the pen into a unique objet d’art.
Perhaps the most popular and personal of all bespoke requests is that of the owner’s family, or
maybe a beloved one or a self-portrait. With attention to detail and true sensitivity, the image on
the pen serves as would a photograph, but with lifelong permanence.
Equestrian themes, too, attract a number of clients who wish to personalise their Montegrappa
pens. This client’s pen features a trio of horses in full gallop, the invigorating image encircling
the pen’s barrel.
Vintage automobiles are treasured possessions, such that the motoring enthusiast will enjoy an
ever-present reminder of a vehicle of such beauty. Shown here is a magnificent coupe from the 1930s.
Yachtsmen, sailors and boating enthusiasts love their craft as much as do motoring devotees.
The subject of this personalised pen is a classic 1950s speedboat, its wooden deck
captured plank-by-plank.
A modern GT car graces the pen on these pages, in all of its muscular glory. So vivid is the
image that you can almost sense the speed.
Architectural subjects are ever popular, whether a Palladian edifice such as this, or a
client’s private home. The engraver will endow the image with all the details required to
portray the building in all its glory.
Among the most popular themes for bespoke adaptation is that of the much-loved family pet. The glorious
and noble hound seen here has been captured with lifelike detail, reminding his owner of the love and
loyalty they share.
From a palette of 24 colours, the client selects the hue that best defines and complements the mood and
spirit of the personal image engraved into metal. The choices range from earthy tones to primary colours to gem-like mixtures, while every celluloid cap and barrel add to the individuality of the pen through the uniqueness of the material’s natural grain structure.
